Peter Gumaer Ogden's Art

His hand made Valentine's Day heart bird for his grandfather, George Ogden, 1963. The heart motif has appeared as a motif in Peter's art throughout his career demonstrating the often subconscious persistence of visual imagery from early childhood in a human's memory.

"Purple and Green Butterfly." Circa 1965. Crayon on paper cut out. Again this motif appeared in many of Peter's subsequent works.

"Get Well Soon." 1967. Crayon and pencil on paper. 9" x 12". This was dedicated
to his father or grandfather who is depicted resting in a spare hospital bed with a huge
thermometer with glowing red bulb protruding from his mouth.

" Pinkster. " 1968. Crayon on paper. These wild relatives of the Azalea family bloomed
in the spring forests at Ogden Farm and in the woods around the Gumaer family com-
pound at Lake Guymard.

"Grandma & Grandpa Mooing Cow" with Tiger lilies envelope; circa 1970.
"Magic marker" and pen.

" Hand Colored Envelope I. " Colored markers. 1973. Mailed from the George School to Ogden Farm.

"Zambezi Forest." Colored marker and ballpoint pen. 1973. Cover for anthology of his illustrated poems, 1969-1973.

"Red Banner Castle." Illustrated letterhead. 1974. Ballpoint pen on paper. George School.

"The Sun Machine." 1976. Pen and ink and rapidograph on paper. Inspired by the David Bowie song "Memory of a Free Festival" from the "Space Oddity" album. Lyric's: "...and Peter tried to climb aboard but the captain shook his head and away they soared, climbing through the ivory vibrant cloud, someone passed some bliss among the crowd, and we walked back to the road unchained. The sun machine is coming down and we're gonna have a party, the sun machine is coming down and we're gonna have a party..."

" Gastonian Deja Vu. " 1976. Ink on paper. 8" x 10". Before posting this the artist had
seriously considered burning it because he felt it was too amateurish, but before following
through with the contemplated destruction he was assured that this piece had enough
redeemable droll naive imagery to warrant its preservation for posterity.

" For Grandma. " 1976. Pen and ink on paper..

"Pets." 1978. Pen and ink on paper. One of a limited edition of 300 "offset
